Product development plans for the Overo series include faster Overo COMs with more memory as well as additional expansion boards with new functions and features.

Note that this list is subject to change and no commitment is being made as to when or if Gumstix will release these products.

The list of research and development·projects @ Gumstix for the Overo product line includes the following products, which are not shown in any specific order:

Gumstix has recently released the following products for the Overo series:

  • Overo WaterSTORM COM, Overo FireSTORM COM and Overo IronSTORM COM. These Overo STORM COMs feature the DaVinci DM3703 Digital Media Processor from Texas Instruments. Compared to the OMAP3530 Applications Processor, customers may be able to attain "up to a 50-percent increase in ARM performance, a 40-percent increase in DSP performance, double the graphics performance while using up to 40% less power", according to information provided by Texas Instruments. The Texas Instruments DM3730 Applications Processor provides up to "1GHz ARM Cortex A8 and 800Mhz C4x+ DSP enabling 720p HD video for media-rich applications", according to Texas Instruments.
  • Overo EarthSTORM COM and Overo AirSTORM COM. These Overo STORM COMs feature the Stellaris AM3703 processor from Texas Instruments.
  • Increased on-board RAM and NAND for OMAP-based Overo COMs to 512MB RAM and 512MB NAND, without increasing the prices. Note: this notice does not include the Overo Tide COM, which only has RAM memory.
  • An entry-level Overo COM called the Overo Sand COM: available for less than $100 in an order of 1,000 or more.
  • RoboVero expansion board - a robotic board(s) for the Overo series
  • Caspa FS camera board and Caspa VL camera board. The Caspa series of camera boards connect to the 27-pin connector (J5) located on the top of each Overo COM.
  • Gallop43: GPS location positioning with accelerometer, 4.3" LCD screen connector and more functions.
  • Overo Tide COM offering 512MB RAM and no flash memory.
  • Overo FE COM, an Overo COM built with extended temperature components -40°C < T < 85°C.
  • Stagecoach: An expansion board on which seven (7) Overo COMs can be mounted and connected via 100Mbps switched Fast Ethernet.
  • Chestnut43:·Combined 10/100baseT Ethernet and LCD-ready expansion board to bring together the function of the Tobi and Palo boards.
  • Tobi-Duo:·Dual Ethernet expansion board ideal for Overo-based network appliances.
  • Palo35:·Expansion board for a 3.5" LCD screen
  • Pinto-TH:·A breakout board for product development.
  • Thumbo: a USB-powered expansion board for the Overo Earth COM and Overo Water COM.

Note that each expansion board has been designed to be connected to every Overo COM with the exception of the Thumbo expansion board which has limitations posted on it's product page at www.gumsitx.com
