Issue: Removal of the R26 resistor from versions R2173 and earlier of the Overo COM·and running a Linux kernel built from 2.6.29-rc2 or higher·allows EHCI (USB host) to function properly.

Update: October 20th, 2009: This manufacturing issue has been resolved.

Update September 10, 2009: A small quantity of Overo COMs R2173 and early was built with the R26 module installed, in error. Removal of the R26 resistor from these Overo Water COM allowed EHCI (USB host) to function properly.

Update: August 18th, 2009: This issue hardware issue had been resolved. As to software, EHCI has been supported on all builds pretty much since the beginning -- once Gumstix discovered the R26 issue and removed it, the software immediately began to work.

Gumstix has determined that the removal of the R26 resistor from versions R2173 and earlier of the Overo COM and running a Linux kernel built from 2.6.29-rc2 or higher allows EHCI (USB host) to function properly. There has been discussion on the mailing list re the setup of EHCI on Overo COM, such as this thread which includes advice such as "you don't need 2.6.29 for EHCI host mode. The OE 2.6.28 recipe at the top of tree has EHCI enabled and it is functional".
